Area code lookup
Any of the 441 area codes that dial +1 — the state or country, the places it covers, and the local time there right now.
Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type or upload is sent, stored or logged — there is no server behind this page to send it to.
US, Canada and the Caribbean — everywhere that dials +1.
Three digits, one useful fact
For someone working a call list, the area code answers one question better than anything else on the record: what time is it where this phone is ringing? A rep in New York starting at 8am is calling a 415 number at 5am. The list does not warn you; the area code does.
The North American Numbering Plan covers the US, Canada and much of the Caribbean, so a Bahamas or Jamaica number looks exactly like a domestic one — ten digits, +1 — and is not domestic for billing or for time. The lookup names the country for those so they stand out.
Allowed to call is a different question
The window shown here is the federal 8am–9pm one. Several states set narrower hours or restrict particular days, and calling hours sit alongside do-not-call and consent rules. The calling hours checker covers the states, and our article on the best time to make sales calls covers when people actually answer.
Area codes, answered
How do I find out where an area code is?
Type the three digits, or paste the whole number, into the box above. It shows the state or province — or the country, for the Caribbean and US territories — the largest places the code covers, and the local time there now.
Does the area code tell me where the person actually is?
It tells you where the number was issued. Mobile numbers move with their owners and ported numbers can sit anywhere, so treat it as a strong hint for the time zone, not as proof of location.
Why do some area codes show two times?
Because they cover counties on both sides of a time-zone line — the Florida panhandle, western Kentucky, much of Indiana and the Dakotas. The tool shows each local time the code can mean, so you can avoid calling the earlier side too early.
What about 800, 888 and other toll-free codes?
Toll-free numbers are not tied to a place, so they cannot tell you a time zone. The tool says so rather than guessing.
Where does the data come from?
From Google’s open-source libphonenumber metadata, the same dataset Android and most phone-number libraries use, processed into this page at build time. The local time comes from your own browser’s time-zone database.
Let the dialer do the time zones
CallPal campaigns only dial inside the calling hours you set, in the time zone you choose — so a list started early in the morning does not quietly start too early.
The other free tools are all in one place.
