Call minutes cost calculator
What a month of outbound dialing costs in minutes — at a carrier rate you negotiate yourself, against a bundled platform rate. Change any number and both columns move.

Minutes only. Seat prices are a separate line on both sides, and neither column includes number rental, taxes or regulatory fees — which are real and which your carrier itemises.
The line nobody models before signing
Seat price is the number on the pricing page. Minutes are the number on the invoice, and they are the only part of the bill that grows when outbound starts working — which makes them the one line worth modelling before you commit.
Two models exist. Most calling platforms are also your telecom carrier: you buy numbers from them and pay their per-minute rate. A smaller group is bring your own carrier, where you hold a contract with a wholesale provider and the software simply drives it. Bundled is simpler on day one. BYOC is usually cheaper past a few thousand minutes a month, and it means changing software never means changing your phone numbers.
The calculator above only counts answered minutes, because that is what carriers bill. It excludes seat prices on both sides, number rental, taxes and regulatory fees — all real, all itemised separately, and none of them the thing that differs between the two models.
Where to find your real numbers
Take last month’s calling charges and divide by last month’s minutes — that is your true bundled rate, including any overage. For the other column, ask two wholesale carriers for a quote on your destination mix; most will give one without a call.
What BYOC costs you back
It is not free money. You take on a carrier relationship, number registration — skip that in the US and your numbers start arriving labelled as spam, which no calling hour rescues — and sizing your own capacity for the day everyone dials at once.
What you get back is the rate itself, and portability: the numbers sit on your account, so the next software change does not touch them. There is a fuller account in BYOC explained, and the mechanics on the SIP trunks page.
Call costs, answered
How many minutes does an outbound team actually use?
Multiply reps by dials per day by working days, take the share that get answered, and multiply by the average length of an answered call. Eight reps at 60 dials a day with a 30% answer rate and three-minute conversations is roughly 9,000 talk minutes a month — the calculator does this for you, and the answer surprises most teams.
Why does the calculation only count answered calls?
Because most carriers bill connected time. A dial that rings out and is never answered costs nothing, which is why a team with a poor answer rate has a smaller phone bill and a bigger problem.
What is a realistic wholesale rate?
US outbound termination is commonly quoted somewhere around three-quarters of a cent to a cent and a half per minute, depending on volume and destination mix. International varies enormously. Use a real quote rather than the default here — the default is deliberately conservative.
What is a bundled platform rate?
Whatever your current invoice divides out to. Some platforms publish a per-minute price, others fold an allowance into the seat price and charge overage above it. Divide last month’s calling charges by last month’s minutes and use that number.
Does this include the software?
No, and deliberately. Seat prices are a separate line on both sides of the comparison, and they are the line vendors publish. This calculates only the part that scales with how much you actually call, which is the part nobody models before signing.
When is bundled the better deal?
At low volume, and when an unlimited bundle covers the destinations you dial. Below a few thousand minutes a month the difference is small enough that one invoice and no carrier relationship is worth more than the saving.
