Auto dialer
An auto dialer is any system that dials outbound numbers from a list automatically rather than by hand. It is an umbrella term: power, progressive, preview and predictive dialers are all auto dialers, and they behave differently enough that the word alone does not tell a buyer what they are getting.
This matters when comparing products. Two tools both described as auto dialers can differ on the single question that decides whether the person you call hears a voice or silence: how many calls does it place per rep?
The useful follow-up questions are: how many calls per rep at once, is the rep connected before it rings, and is there an abandoned-call rate to monitor. The answers separate a power dialer from a predictive dialer regardless of what the marketing calls it.
